About Getting around Las Vegas without a car: the back story

You don’t need a car for the Strip and downtown. Here is how to combine the Monorail, the Vegas Loop, the Deuce, taxis and your own feet.

From the airport

At Harry Reid International, taxis wait outside baggage claim and Uber and Lyft pick up in the parking garages. Pre-booked limousines meet you inside. Allow extra time until December 2026 while the airport connector tunnels are resurfaced.

Along the Strip

The Las Vegas Monorail runs behind the east side of the Strip, from MGM Grand to SAHARA, with seven stations and trains every 4–8 minutes. The Deuce bus stops all along Las Vegas Boulevard, with ticket machines at every Strip stop. Walking is part of the fun, but distances are longer than they look.

The best Strip transport is often a mix of Monorail and walking.

The Vegas Loop

The Boring Company’s Vegas Loop runs Teslas through tunnels. Rides within the Convention Center campus have no fare, and tickets for other stations are sold on lvloop.com.

Day trips

For Red Rock, Hoover Dam, Valley of Fire and the national parks you will need a car, a tour or a helicopter. The Rent-A-Car Center is three miles south of the airport, linked by shuttle.

Our advice: buy a Monorail pass for a Strip-based stay and use taxis or rideshare for downtown evenings.
